🌿 Introduction: Why I Wanted to Try Ayurveda
I used to start my mornings in a hurry. I’d grab my phone, scroll through social media, and rush for work. My energy stayed low, and I felt tired even before noon.
One evening, while talking to a friend who follows Ayurveda, she said something that stayed with me — “Your mornings decide your day’s energy.” That sentence made me curious. I started reading about Ayurvedic morning routines, also called Dinacharya.
Fifteen days ago, I decided to give it a real try. I promised myself I’d follow a simple Ayurvedic routine every morning and observe how I felt. What happened surprised me.
🌞 Step 1: Waking Up Early (Before Sunrise)
The first rule of Ayurveda is to wake up during Brahma Muhurta — about 90 minutes before sunrise. For me, that meant getting up around 5:15 a.m.
The first two days were hard. My mind wanted to sleep more. But by the third day, I noticed something. The quiet morning air felt peaceful. Birds were chirping. The world was calm. I felt grounded — something I hadn’t felt in months.
Within a week, waking up early became natural. I didn’t even need an alarm. My energy levels started improving slowly but clearly.
💧 Step 2: Cleansing and Hydrating
After waking up, I started my day by drinking a glass of warm water with lemon and a pinch of turmeric. It tasted earthy and refreshing.
This simple drink helped cleanse my stomach and made me feel lighter. Ayurveda says this helps remove toxins (ama) and improves digestion.
I didn’t expect much, but I noticed my bloating reduced, and my morning felt more active.
🪷 Step 3: Tongue Cleaning and Oil Pulling
Next, I began using a tongue cleaner (made of copper) and did oil pulling with sesame oil for about 5 minutes.
At first, it felt strange — swishing oil in my mouth. But after a few days, my mouth felt fresher, and my gums seemed healthier. It became a mini morning ritual that made me feel clean and refreshed.
Oil pulling, according to Ayurveda, helps remove toxins and supports oral health. I just loved how my mouth felt afterward — clean and energized.
🌺 Step 4: Self-Massage (Abhyanga) Before Bath
This was the most relaxing part. Before bathing, I warmed a little sesame oil and massaged it gently all over my body.
The first time I did it, I felt lazy. But the warmth of the oil was calming. My skin felt soft, and my muscles felt less tight.
By the second week, I noticed I was sleeping better at night. Abhyanga is said to improve circulation and calm the nervous system. I didn’t know the science behind it — but it worked.
🌿 Step 5: Morning Yoga and Breathing
After the oil massage and bath, I did 10 minutes of light yoga followed by deep breathing (pranayama).
These few minutes became the best part of my day. Stretching, breathing deeply, and feeling my body wake up naturally — it set a positive tone for the rest of the day.
I didn’t do complicated yoga poses. Just simple stretches, a few Surya Namaskars (sun salutations), and mindful breathing.
After every session, I felt peaceful — something coffee never gave me.

☀️ Step 6: A Calm and Mindful Breakfast
Before this experiment, I often skipped breakfast or ate while scrolling on my phone. Now, I sit quietly with warm herbal tea and a bowl of fruits or porridge.
Eating mindfully made a big difference. My digestion improved, and I no longer felt sleepy after breakfast.
Ayurveda teaches that how you eat matters as much as what you eat — and it’s true.
🌼 What Changed After 15 Days
Here’s what I honestly noticed after following my Ayurvedic morning routine for just 15 days:
- My energy stayed stable throughout the day.
- My mood improved, and I felt calmer in the mornings.
- My digestion became smoother.
- My sleep quality improved — I woke up fresh instead of groggy.
- Most importantly, I started to enjoy mornings instead of rushing through them.
This small change made me feel more connected to my body and mind. Ayurveda is not about doing everything perfectly — it’s about listening to your body and giving it what it needs naturally.
🌿 My Tips If You Want to Try This
If you want to start your own Ayurvedic morning routine, here’s what helped me:
- Start small. Pick one or two steps and do them daily.
- Be consistent. It’s better to do it for 10 minutes daily than 1 hour once a week.
- Don’t aim for perfection. Some days I woke up late, and that’s okay.
- Make it enjoyable. Light incense, play calming music — make mornings peaceful.
- Listen to your body. Ayurveda is personal. What works for one may not for another.
🌞 Final Thoughts
Trying an Ayurvedic morning routine changed how I look at health. It taught me that wellness isn’t about big efforts — it’s about small, mindful habits.
Now, my mornings are calm, refreshing, and filled with gratitude. It feels less like a routine and more like a ritual — a way to connect with myself.
If you’ve been feeling tired, stressed, or disconnected, maybe Ayurveda can help you too — one simple morning at a time.
